A passion for film and history is the red thread running through all activities at Film Atelier Den Haag. The Atelier offers a combination of knowledge and practice, of mind work and handwork; including research for documentaries, working with celluloid film collections, research and editing work for (often history-oriented) websites, workshops in the field of film restoration and preservation, and lectures on film history related topics.

The old little warehuis that is hidden behind the Herenstraat offers enough room to accommodate a 16 and 35mm Steenbeck film editing table, to work on the celluloid films temporarily stored here, to organise a lecture or workshop for small groups, to keep all relevant books within reach, and of course there are facilities to screen films.

Specifically, the atelier offers the following services and facilities:

• research for documentaries (in terms of both images and content)
• inventorying, restoring and management advice for 35 and 16mm films
• research and editorial work for websites
• workshops for professionals and other enthusiasts
• lectures on film history related topics
• use of the 35 and 16mm Steenbeck editing tables for professionals
• rental location for meetings and presentations

Film Atelier Den Haag is managed by Elisa Mutsaers. She is a historian by training (Leiden University, 1996) and has specialised in the field of research for documentaries and film preservation with MA degrees in Research for Documentaries (London College of Print, 2000) and Preservation and Presentation of the Moving Image (University of Amsterdam, 2005). Additionally, she completed the professional film preservation course at the L. Jeffrey Selznick School of Film Preservation, housed in the George Eastman House in Rochester, New York (2006).
